State Highway Patrol members were in the region on the weekend conducting drug and alcohol testing, and operating speed cameras in Bendigo.
A 28-year-old Bendigo man was caught at 103 kilometres per hours in a 50 zone in a residential area.
A 30-year-old Strathfieldsaye man was caught at 155 kilometres per hour in a 110 zone on Sunday evening.
Inspector John Cormack, of the State Highway Patrol, said the offending was “very, very disappointing” and it reinforced the commitment of police to monitor roads in country Victoria.
“That’s going to be a continued focus not only across Victoria, but particularly in Bendigo over the next series of months,” he said.
“The State Highway Patrol will be coming to these areas often to focus on those things, speed and impairment.
“We are seeing an increase in impairment, drugs and alcohol, and Bendigo’s not on its own there, there are other rural cities that do have an impact of drugs in their community.”
The Bendigo Highway Patrol unit focused its efforts on the Elmore B&S Ball on Sunday.
Police from Bendigo, Campaspe, Macedon Ranges, Goldfields, Gunbower and the State Highway Patrol set up an operation from 6am Sunday.
They conducted 391 breath tests and 18 oral fluid test.
A 27-year-old Norlane woman was detected at 0.065.
Gunbower conducted 142 breath tests and caught a Bendigo P-plater at 0.036. P-plate drivers cannot have alcohol in their system while driving.
Police set up a second operation near the Elmore Events Centre from 2pm Sunday, conducted 169 breath tests and 10 oral fluid tests.
They issued four speed penalty notices, caught one person driving an unregistered vehicle and one person was charged with careless driving.
