A FORMER Bendigo Spirit and Lady Braves player has been fined $3000 and ordered to repay $20,500 defrauded from the City of Ballarat following an investigation by the state’s corruption watchdog.

Jasmine Finnigan was sentenced in the County Court in Melbourne on Thursday after pleading guilty to obtaining financial advantage by deception and attempting to commit an indictable offence.
Her husband Lukas Carey – a former Bendigo Braves coach and former Bendigo Pools regional manager – was jailed for three years last month and ordered to repay $31,200 for his role in corrupt procurement.
Carey allocated consultation work to and authorised payment on behalf of the Ballarat City Council to his friends and Finnigan totaling $184,123 over a two-year period.
Carey was then paid $31,200 in secret commissions.
Finnigan was contracted to provide discussion papers on various matters, including croquet and strategies, despite having no expertise.
Carey and Finnigan did not disclose their relationship in order for her to be contracted the work and she went by the name ‘Carole’.
Finnigan was convicted for her role.
