Global event sets tone for region’s celebration of women

CENTRAL Victorian women were in the spotlight at a function in Bendigo last night.

The Zonta Club of Bendigo celebrated International Women’s Day with a dinner at the All Seasons Hotel.

Women’s achievements were recognised and promoted through the presentation of awards and scholarships.

Ella Fisher was awarded the Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship to further encourage her efforts in the community.

Teagan Clarke was announced as the recipient of the Ann Horrocks STEM scholarship.

The third annual Women of Achievement Award was this year shared by two recipients – Cathie Steele and Seisei Mu Thein.

Guest speaker Bree Mellberg’s address was another of the evening’s highlights.

Ms Mellberg represented Australia in the 17th FINA World Junior Diving Championships and is a member of the Gliders Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team.

She was the recipient of the 2016 Ann Horrocks STEM scholarship.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8.
