Bendigo Regional YMCA youth empowerment coordinator Jamie Roberts said the organisation believed in the power of inspired young people.
“We’re looking at what we can do in our community to find opportunities to help inspire young people to be their best through leadership programs, resilience programs and team building projects,” Mr Roberts said.
“What we do know is that according to mission Australia, one in four young people meet the criteria to be diagnosed for a mental illness, which is frightening.
“The event on Sunday is an opportunity for us to put on a fun, safe and friendly event to help us plan for future events but also for us to engage with young people to see how we can be more youth friendly.”
The Poolside Sesh For Youth is free to young people under the age of 18 and will have a BBQ, competitions, and live entertainment from performers Tom Harrington, Mariah McCarthy and Steven Hammer.
“We want to trial a safe and fun poolside event while creating an opportunity to get feedback on how we can best work to empower and inspire young people,” Mr Roberts said.
The event will take place from 3-6pm at the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Napier Street, Eaglehawk.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
