Sharon Custers has been named the new executive director of Arena Theatre Company.

Ms Custers, who will take up her role from March, has more than 20 years’ experience in the performing arts industry including roles with Sydney Theatre Company, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and Cirque du Soleil.
“We are going to work really hard to embed the company in Bendigo while fostering innovative partnerships with major arts organisations throughout Australia and overseas,” she said.
“I am thrilled to be joining the company at this exciting time and am really looking forward to coming home to Victoria.”
Arena’s artistic director Christian Leavesley said he was excited to have Ms Custers’ experience at the company.
"I am so excited to have Sharon joining the Arena team as we begin our new life as a Bendigo-based theatre company,” he said.
“Sharon's drive and energy are a perfect fit for the brilliant opportunities we have in front of us.”
Arena Theatre Company was established in Melbourne in 1966 but moved its headquarters to Bendigo last year.
The relocation also establishes Arena as the first resident company at Bendigo’s Capital theatre complex.
Two exciting productions from the company’s new home will emerge in April and July.
The remounting of Trapper will play at the Sydney Opera House from April 11 to 15 while its
Arena’s first Bendigo presentation will be Robot Song at The Engine Room from July 11 to 14 for the public and July 17 to 19 for schools.
