Bendigo Mountain Bike Club’s Barry Floyd said the club aimed to assist Parks Victoria with a partnership model that identified and acted on voluntary activities that would keep Bendigo Regional Park clean.
“Removing the rubbish was only a couple of hours work that involved two trips to the tip. It also only took two people to do,” Mr Floyd said.
The cost to remove the rubbish and take the items to a recovery yard was met by Parks Victoria, with the club paying another minor fee to take the other items to a tip site.
Mr Floyd said the BMBC and Parks Victoria were involved with the Goldfields Track Committee and had a duty of care to keep the track maintained as it was a trail of state significance.
“The Goldfields Track and the regional park provide a significant public health benefit through recreational access to the bush, but it is important that this happens in a sustainable way for the regional park and the environment,” Mr Floyd said.
“These are key drivers for the BMBC for the growth and management of our recreational policy.”
