Janak Prasad Sharma, the international aid and development agency’s Nepal regional program manager, spoke to students at Marist and Catherine McAuley colleges on Wednesday as part of fundraising appeal Project Compassion.
The appeal is the Catholic organisation’s annual fundraising and awareness-raising drive and this year focuses on youth and their communities.
Mr Sharma heads a children and youth program that tackles issues like youth unemployment and early marriage through skills development and education.
He joined Caritas in 2006, following the Nepalese civil war, and also works as a lawyer.
Wednesday was not only his first trip to Bendigo, but Australia as well, as he travels around the country highlighting the work of Caritas.
