The man, 18, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 12, and using a carriage service to produce and transmit child exploitation material.
In a statement, the Australian Federal Police said further charges had not been ruled out.
Detectives from the Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team raided the man’s home in Echuca on Sunday morning.
He was taken to Echuca Police Station, questioned and kept overnight to appear in court on Monday.
Police will allege he used Snapchat to transmit abuse of a child under the age of 12 years to another user.
He was released on bail, and will next appear in the court on May 30.
The AFP urged members of the public with information about people involved in child exploitation material to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
