The Right Reverend Dr Matt Brain, an assistant bishop for the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, succeeds Bishop Andrew Curnow, who retired in December.

After the church procession entered St Paul’s Cathedral, Bishop Brain waited outside the main doors, knocking on them in a theatrical presentation symbolising his journey to the diocese of Bendigo.
Bishop Brain, who was the general manager of Anglican diocese services in 2016, thanked the congregation for welcoming him.
Federal member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters delivered a welcome speech to the congregation, as did Archbishop Philip Freier – Primate and Archbishop of Melbourne – and The Very Reverend John Roundhill – Vicar General and Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Bishop Brain, 42, was elected in early December by the diocese’s Bishopric Electoral Board.
He is married to Rachael and they have five children under the age of 16.
