Marong Cup secretary Greg Sheehan said more than $550,000 had be raised for schools over the past 12 years.
“It’s somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000 each year with each school getting about $6000 each,” he said.
“The schools really appreciate the funds and that’s the principal reason we run the day.”

Mr Sheehan said he expected about 3000 people to come through the gates for the Marong Cup at the Bendigo Jockey Club.
More than 200 volunteers from the eight local Catholic primary schools will help run the day.
“The weather looks like it will be perfect and the track is in excellent condition. Staff have done an tremendous job,” he said.
“We have got a huge kids entertainment area with 15 activities including a jumping castle, slides and dodgem cars. It is $10 for kids to get an all day pass to ride everything.”
