The grass fire started in Cunneen Street, Long Gully, at 5.15pm with CFA and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning crews responding. Police also attended the scene.
“Crews from Bendigo, Eaglehawk and Golden Square contained the fire within 15 minutes,” a CFA spokeswoman said.
“The fire will be investigated in association with Victoria Police.”
Witnesses at the scene claimed the fire was deliberately lit. They said they saw a teenager on a BMX bike in the area.
