Dennis O’Hoy travelled down Pall Mall aboard Tram No. 8, driven by Steve Kirkpatrick.
“The whole thing is so exciting, it is good to be on Tram No. 8, the oldest tram running in Bendigo since 1903,” Mr O’Hoy said.
“It’s wonderful, great crowd and a great lot of baton bearers.”
Russell Jack is used to the spotlight of such an event, having carried the baton through Bendigo for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Mr Jack carried the baton along Pall Mall after it had been delivered by tram from Dennis O’Hoy.
“It’s really good, I started this in ‘56 when the Olympic Games came through, it’s great for me,” Mr Jack said.
“Especially back in ‘56, that was a real big thrill but this is a thrill too.”
