Man faces court after allegedly shooting at police at Axe Creek

UPDATE 12.30pm: The 50-year-old man appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Monday.

He was granted bail to a psychiatric hospital and will appear in court again later this month.

EARLIER: A man has been charged after allegedly shooting at police in a confrontation at Axe Creek on Friday night.

The 50-year-old Axe Creek man appeared in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on charges of reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, and common law assault.

It is alleged the man shot at police officers at an Axe Creek Road address about 11.30pm on February 9.

Police returned fire with a single shot and, as per standard procedure when a member discharges a firearm, the Professional Standards Command will investigate.

No one was injured during the incident.
