Emergency services were called to Michelsen Street shortly after 1pm after the truck tipped onto its side, spilling a load of gravel onto the footpath and trapping the driver.
The truck’s hydraulic trailer was fully extended.
SES freed the driver, a 58-year-old Bendigo man, and he was taken to Bendigo Health with “minor back injuries”, according to Leading Senior Constable Peter Dyer.
He said it was now a WorkSafe matter and it would be inappropriate for police to comment.
Workers have been resurfacing Michelsen Street for about three weeks. Work is continuing at the site, and machinery will be brought to the area this afternoon to remove the truck.
Its load fell just metres from a car parked on a nature strip.
The car’s owner, who was in his backyard at the time of the incident, said they were used to hearing loud noises from the roadworks, but the noise from the fallen truck was “another level”.
Another nearby resident said he heard the noise from two streets away.
The street was already closed to traffic as the road was being resurfaced.
