Caritas Australia coordinator for north/north eastern Victoria Kerry Stone said the fundraising event in Hargreaves Mall had become a tradition in Bendigo and helped raise awareness for Project Compassion.
The focus of Caritas Australia’s project for 2018 is youth, and how to provide them “with a just future”.
“2018 is the designated year of youth. The concern for the future appeals to everybody, but particularly for young people in impoverished countries around the world,” she said.
“Youth are our future and unless we can provide them with a just future we’re on a road to no where.”
Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day marks the last day before 40 days of fasting begins for Lent during the lead-up to Easter.
There will be free pancakes from 11am with an official welcome by Cr Andrea Metcalf at 11:30am followed by entertainment from school choirs.
The event will conclude with the official launch and commissioning by the Bishop of Sandhurst.
