KANGAROO Flat won its first game since November and climbed back into the Bendigo Bowls Division weekend pennant top four with a 10-shot victory over South Bendigo on Saturday.
The Flat reignited its season with its 93-83 win over South at home.
Before Saturday the Flat’s last win had also been against South Bendigo on November 25.
Kangaroo Flat had three winning rinks, with skippers John Berry (+6), Barry Anset (+12) and Cameron Wilson (+6) all prevailing.
It was a much tougher day though for the Flat rink of Paul Moller, which copped a 29-15 defeat from Brad Holland.
• For the second time this season Inglewood and Bendigo have played out a one-shot thriller.
Only this time it was Bendigo that came out on top.
The Goers made it two wins in a row with a 90-89 victory that not only elevated them off the bottom of the ladder for the first time this season, but also cost Inglewood its position in the top four.
Bendigo fought its way back from a double-digit deficit after the tea break to level the scores 89-89 with the last end of the match to be contested between the rinks of the Goers’ Torie Babitsch and Inglewood’s Mal McLean.
The final end went Bendigo’s way, with third Bruce Morely producing the bowl that gave the Goers’ shot.
Morely picking up shot also forced a 24-all tie between Babitsch and McLean.
Not only was Saturday the second one-shot margin between the two sides this season, but their round five encounter was also a 90-89 scoreline – only the winner that day was Inglewood.
• Flag favourite Eaglehawk bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a strong performance against Bendigo East, winning 97-73.
The Hawks made a clean sweep of the Beasties, winning all four rinks, with the biggest result being the nine shots Tony Ellis defeated Aaron Tomkins by.
The defeat was the first time since round one of the 2013-14 season – also against Eaglehawk – that Bendigo East has copped an all-rinks loss.
• Golden Square’s finals aspirations are still alive after it closed to within eight points of the top four following a 96-85 win at home over Castlemaine.
The rinks of Daryl Cheeseman (+8), Garri Conforti (+2) and Mal Finch (+5) were all victorious for Square.
The loss sent Castlemaine to the bottom of the ladder.
