A man has surrendered himself to police after both he and an officer fired shots in a confrontation at an Axe Creek property.

Police were called to an Axe Creek Road address about 11.30pm Friday following reports of an altercation between people known to each other.
On arrival, police found a man armed with a firearm and threatening self-harm.
The man fired one shot and police returned fire with a single shot.
No one was injured and the man surrendered.
A 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment.
Professional Standard Command will investigate the incident, in accordance with standard procedure when a police member discharges a firearm.
Victoria Police says the incident has finished and there is no threat to public safety.
