Bendigo’s shot at two on trot in BBD weekend pennant

COULD it be a case of beware Bendigo over the final three rounds of the BBD weekend pennant season?

Bendigo sits on the bottom of the ladder, but showed last week against Eaglehawk that it still has the capacity to have an influence on the season.

The Goers last Saturday inflicted ladder-leader Eaglehawk’s first loss of the season and will now chase consecutive wins when it makes the trip to Inglewood on Saturday.

Inglewood has plenty to play for, with the Woods in a strong position to challenge for a long-awaited division one finals berth.

Following last week’s victory over Castlemaine, the Woods enter the final three rounds sitting in fourth position and with skipper Mal McLean back in the side following a cameo the past two weeks with Inglewood’s cricket team.

If this game is anything like their round five encounter it will be a cracker.

Last time: Inglewood 90 d Bendigo 89.

Since 2005: Bendigo 16; Inglewood 3.

Tip: Inglewood.

EAGLEHAWK v BENDIGO EAST

Match of the round between first and third.

You’d expect the Hawks to be hungry to hit back after their first defeat of the season, but can expect a strong challenge from the Beasties.

Last time: Eaglehawk 90 d Bendigo East 86.

Since 2005: Eaglehawk 16; Bendigo East 16; Tied 1.

Tip: Eaglehawk.

GOLDEN SQUARE v CASTLEMAINE

Castlemaine is now in wooden-spoon danger, with last-placed Bendigo within three points of the Maine.

This is a must-win game at home for Square, which is 15 points outside the top four, if it’s to keep its slim finals hopes alive.

Last time: Golden Square 106 d Castlemaine 85.

Since 2005: Golden Square 13; Castlemaine 6.

Tip: Golden Square.

KANGAROO FLAT v SOUTH BENDIGO

South Bendigo is ticking along nicely in second spot as it continues to push to shore up a double chance.

The same can’t be said of Kangaroo Flat, which has now dropped out of the top four and hasn’t won a game since November 25 when it beat South by 12.

Last time: Kangaroo Flat 100 d South Bendigo 88.

Since 2005: Kangaroo Flat 11; South Bendigo 3.

Tip: South Bendigo.
