It has only happened twice since 1980, but it’s looming as a possibility this season.
With two rounds remaining in the home and away season the Tigers are in the unfamiliar position of sixth on the ladder, 11 points outside the top four.
And their season will get no easier this Saturday when they host the second-placed Spring Gully at Ewing Park.
Ladder positions suggest the Tigers will go in as underdogs, but when they met earlier in the season United was too good for Spring Gully by 60 runs in a one-day match.
One of the issues that has hampered the Tigers all season has been their revolving door of players that hasn’t allowed any continuity in their team.
The Tigers have had 31 players bat in their division one team – the next most is Golden Gully with a distant 21, while the league average is 19.5.
United is coming off a loss to Maiden Gully last round, while the Crows will be buoyed by their win over Mandurang that has them firmly on track for a top two finish.
Crows batsmen Rhys Webb (475), Lachlan Brook (422) and Joel Bish (408) are all among the competition’s top five run-scorers.
Last time: United 4-218 d Spring Gully 158.
Since 2008: United 12; Spring Gully 5.
Tip: Spring Gully.
