Essendon compiled 6-276 off 50 overs batting first after winning the toss.
Essendon featured four former BDCA players – James Seymour (66), James Ryan (53), Isaac Conway (11) and Xavier Ryan (13).

Kyle Humphrys took three wickets for Bendigo, while fellow spinner Chris Barber picked up two.
Bendigo fell just short in its chase when it was all out for 270 after one stage being 2-165.
The best with the bat for Bendigo were Sam Johnston (49), Shane Koop (48) and Humphrys (42).
Melbourne Country Week – in which Bendigo will play in division two – starts on Monday, February 19.
