The BFNL announced on Wednesday Brett Fitzpatrick (senior football), Jason Stevens (under-18 football), Tamara Gilchrist (senior netball) and Melinda Keighran (under-17 netball) as its 2018 coaches.
Fitzpatrick – in his second stint as inter-league coach – has been back at the helm since 2016 for a win over Gippsland and loss to Ballarat last year.
Stevens, who is coaching Kangaroo Flat’s under-18s this year, last season led the BFNL under-18 team to a victory over Ballarat.
Bendigo’s inter-league opponent this year will be Hampden, with the game to be played at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval on Saturday, May 19.
“Both Brett and Jason did a terrific job with the inter-league teams last year and we certainly look forward to a strong performance when we travel to Warrnambool,” BFNL general manager Denis Bice said.
“We felt that confirming our head coaches early was important to allow them plenty of time to appoint assistantS and start to look at player personnel.”
There will be no inter-league netball games against Hampden, with the Bendigo senior and under-17 teams’ main focus to be on Netball Victoria’s Association Championships.
“The reappointments of Tamara and Melinda highlight the exceptional job they did with the representative teams in 2017,” Bice said.
“We have no doubt that the players benefited from such successful and committed coaches.”
