Owner Garry Van Wynen said the tavern’s location could make it more of a target.
“I think because we are just outside of town people think we do OK. And there’s no-one around late at night,” he said.
Mr Van Wynen said the police had been responsive and had helped track down previous offenders.
He hoped the offenders could be tracked down but said unless they were caught in the act on other burglaries or had stolen goods linked to them police might find it hard.
Mr Van Wynen had posted photos from the Tavern’s CCTV cameras in the hopes of getting the word out and helping track down the offenders.
The thieves broke into two cash boxes but Mr Van Wynen said the business had suffered very little loss.
Instead, it was charities and staff who would lose out.
About $400 worth of staff tips taken.
“The worst thing is that they have taken two charity tins. They are lowlifes – (I’d say to them) ‘just take something else, mate’,” he said.
The thieves stole both a Soldier On Foundation charity tin and a Neimann-Pick Type C Disease Foundation tin raising money for a number of people in the region.
He estimated the cost of the burglary, including damages, was at least $2500.
