Mr Trainor said it was exciting to have sold a winning ticket, but what made it even better was that the winners were regular customers to his shop.
He described the couple as “worthy winners” of their fortune.
“It’s good to see regulars that come in finally hit pay dirt,” Mr Trainor said.
UPDATE 10.40am: A Bendigo couple have been revealed as division one winners of Saturday’s TattsLotto draw, netting them a prize of $2,011,008.59.
The first thing on their shopping list is a new car, with their old Holden in need of an upgrade.
The woman said travelling was also on the cards.
“My son has also been talking about taking me to Singapore because I love orchids you see,” she said.
When speaking with the Tatts official who confirmed their win, the woman said she was shaking and might put the kettle on – or bring the champagne out.
“My husband still thinks I am pulling his leg! He’s checking the numbers in the paper now,” she said.
The couple not only won the division one prize, but their entry won division three six times, taking their total winnings to $2,083,616.99.
The winning ticket was purchased from Eaglehawk Newsagency, which has seen a few big wins over the years.
Owner Leo Trainor said it was the fifth division one win for the shop in the years he had owned it.
“When it happens we are usually more excited about the win than the winners who are receiving the prize,” Mr Trainor said.
“It’s great as it generates a lot of buzz and excitement amongst us in the business and gets lots of community interest.”
The couple from Bendigo shared the division one prize with another lucky lottery player, who bought their ticket in South Yarra.
Last year, three winners across central Victoria claimed a combined $8.8 million in lottery winnings.
In total, $14,876,454 in division one prizes went to central Victorians.
EARLIER: One lucky person has claimed a prize of about $2 million in Saturday’s TattsLotto draw, after purchasing a lottery ticket at Eaglehawk Newsagency.
The ticket is registered, so the identity of the winner is known.
The person was one of two winners nationally: the other purchased their ticket in South Yarra.
The winning numbers were 14, 9, 2, 5, 31 and 34, with supplementaries 7 and 13.
In July last year, Eaglehawk Newsagency also sold a winning ticket that saw a retired woman claim a massive $6 million in Powerball.
At that time, the newsagency had sold three division one-winning entries in six years.
Last June, a person in Maryborough won a share in a $21 million Tattslotto superdraw, which saw them claim about $1.4 million.
More to come.
