The non-profit organisation won two Telstra Kids Grants, with $1200 for a Nature Kids Explorer Activity Pack and a further $1200 to purchase magnet-based toys.
The nature pack will be used solely for parties and larger entertaining and comes with bugs, explorer costumes, reflective sensory puddles, and investigative tools such as microscopes, over-sized working compasses and magnifiers.
Toy library committee chair Brooke Bennett said the funding was fantastic for the organisation and thanked Telstra.
“That amount of money goes along way for us,” she said.
“We’ve been able to buy high-quality, expensive toys that won’t break and will last a long time.”
The Bendigo Community Toy Library has been operating for about 30 years and allows its members to loan out items just like a book library.
Membership costs between $35 and $55 per family, for 12 months depending on the type of membership they need. The toys range from puzzles to role-play to dress ups and suit children up to five years of age.
The Bendigo Community Toy Library is on the corner of Spring Gully Road and Kendall Street, Spring Gully, and operates Tuesday and Thursdays, 9.30am to 11am and Saturdays, 9.30am to 11.30am.
