Shelagh Macpherson Noble vice-president of the Clan Macpherson Association visited Bendigo while on holiday to Australia.
While in Australia she is retracing the steps of clan member Alexander Macpherson, a survivor from the Burke and Wills expedition.
Mrs Macpherson Noble met with members of the Scots Day Out team to discuss the strong link that Australia, and specifically Bendigo has with Scotland.
“You will find traces of Scottish connections all over the world, but particularly in Australia and Canada where the Scots went, the diaspora is amazing,” Mrs Macpherson Noble said.
“I’m aware that there are lots of Scottish events throughout Australia because of the large amounts of Scots that live here.”
Mrs Macpherson Noble is part of the Clan Macpherson, whose chief is Sir William Alan Macpherson of Cluny & Blairgowrie.
2017 Scots Day Out chieftain Neil Clark said there are a lot of Scottish migrants in Bendigo and the connection back to Scotland is “very important”.
Mrs Macpherson Noble said it’s brilliant that local Bendigo Scots are keeping their heritage and traditions alive.
“I think the Aussie Scots know exactly where they come from, and remember where they come from.”
Scots Day Out celebrations will be held on March 3 at Rosalind Park and will include events centered around Scottish culture.
