Firefighters were called to the McIvor Road address shortly before 7.45pm, where they found the fire burning in the roof of the brick home.
It took about 40 minutes for firefighters to contain the blaze, with five trucks and about 20 firefighters on scene.
CFA Bendigo senior station officer Mick Lavery said the occupant of the home was not aware of the blaze until she was alerted by someone else.
Paramedics attended as a precaution, but no treatment was necessary.
Police also attended to direct traffic.
Mr Lavery said the cause of the fire was not yet known, but a fire investigator would likely attend the property on Thursday.
