The Demons won by four wickets in what was the club’s first piece of top level silverware since it won the 1993 first XI flag.
The game went right down to the wire, with the Demons getting over the line off the second-last ball of the match courtesy of a boundary to man-of-the-match Rhys Irwin.
Chasing Bendigo United’s 8-108, the Demons had started the last over, to be bowled by Leigh McDermott, needing nine for victory with Irwin and Josh Julius (4 n.o.) at the crease.
After scoring six off the first four deliveries, Irwin (12 n.o.) crunched McDermott (2-21 off 3.5) to the mid-off boundary off the fifth ball to win the game as the Demons reached 6-110.
The Demons had looked up against it when they needed 35 off the last four overs, with the clamps having been put on by the Redbacks.
Earlier, White Hills set up its victory with a strong start with the ball after the Redbacks won the toss and batted on a warm night.
After just 4.3 overs the Redbacks were on the ropes at 4-19, with Irwin and Corey Dickins (2-18) claiming two early wickets each.
Despite their early struggles, the Redbacks batted out their 20 overs, fighting their way to 8-108, with Adrian Cronin (27) – who was bowled off the final ball – leading the fightback.
Irwin (4-22 off 4) finished with four wickets for the Demons, while Mick Peters (1-15 off 4) was economical.
