About 12.10pm, a bushfire was called in in the Raddy Ranges Daisy Hill State Forest, near Maryborough.
It was marked contained just before 1pm and burnt about one hectare.
It was brought under control by Forest Fire Management Victoria firefighters and CFA firefighters.
Air support was activated, but in the end was not required.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but anyone who might have seen anything suspicious in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Further north, police have been called to investigate a grass fire at Kinypanial, north-west of Wedderburn.
That blaze, which was one acre in size, took almost 40 minutes to bring under control.
The fire danger in the North Central and Northern Country forecast districts was considered high on Wednesday.
But with temperatures rising towards the weekend, so too will fire danger ratings.
On Thursday, the Northern Country’s fire danger rating will remain high, but will grow to very high in the North Central and Central districts, and severe in the Mallee and Wimmera, both of which will be subject to total fire bans.
Total fire bans will again be in place on Friday for the Mallee and Wimmera, as well as the Central and North Central districts.
