BENDIGO’S weekend pennant bowlers will have to wait an extra week to resume from their mid-season break after Saturday’s scheduled return was called off on Friday by the BBD match committee.

As of 5.40pm on Friday afternoon, weatherzone was predicting a top temperature of 40 degrees in Bendigo on Saturday.

With Saturday’s play being called off, it will mean weekend pennant bowlers will have had six weeks off between their last game on December 16 and their return next Saturday on January 27.

Round nine division one games that had been scheduled for Saturday were Bendigo v Bendigo East, Eaglehawk v Golden Square, Inglewood v South Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat v Castlemaine.

Saturday will be the first time the BBD has been forced to abandon a round of pennant since the 2013-14 season.

The abandoned games means Bendigo East’s Ken Gloster will have to wait an extra week to play his milestone 700^th pennant match.

Gloster, 89, was due to play his 700^th game in the Beasties’ division three team against Harcourt.

Instead Gloster will reach the milestone next week at Golden Square.
