The Northern Country and Mallee forecast districts are affected by the ban, with the fire danger rating in both districts listed as severe.
On a total fire ban, all fires, as well as liquid and solid fuel barbecues and ovens, are prohibited.
Vehicles must not be driven where they will be in contact with crops, grass or other vegetation, unless they are fitted with an efficient silencing device.
The use of chainsaws, lawn mowers, and plant or grass trimmers should be avoided wherever possible in a total fire ban.
Other activities such as welding, grinding, charring, soldering, gas cutting, using a smoker to relocate bees and using incinerators are also banned.
The use of farm machinery should be avoided.
The Northern Country forecast district encompasses the municipalities of Greater Bendigo, Campaspe, Loddon, Greater Shepparton, Moira and Strathbogie.
Buloke, Gannawarra, Swan Hill, Mildura and Yarriambiack (north) are in the Mallee forecast district.
Elsewhere in central Victoria, the North Central and Central forecast districts have a high fire danger rating.
