Six players – Eaglehawk’s Cory Jacobs, Bendigo’s Kyle Humphrys, Golden Square teenager Zane Keighran and Kangaroo Flat trio Dylan Gibson, Dylan Klemm and Chris Barber – will make their debut for the BDCA at MCW.
DeAraugo, vice-captain Shane Koop, Sandhurst’s Taylor Beard, Strathdale duo Linton Jacobs and Sam Johnston, Golden Square’s Liam Smith and Kangaroo Flat’s Brent Hamblin form the core of the BDCA squad.
With several first-choice players unavailable through injury or work commitments, BDCA coach Wayne Walsh said the selection panel was keen to promote some of the BDCA’s up-and-coming players.
“It’s a young side, but it’s a side that is very capable of playing good cricket,’’ Walsh said.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge of playing in a new-look competition in division two and doing our best to get the BDCA back to the provincial group.”
The BDCA plays West Gippsland, Sunraysia and South West in its three preliminary round matches, with the semi-finals and final to be played on Thursday and Friday respectively.
The BDCA squad will have a centre-wicket training session at Kangaroo Flat this Sunday from 10am.
A further training session will be held at North Bendigo on Wednesday, January 31. The squad will play a practice match against Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday, February 4.
