Rotary member Frank Lean said the club has already received approximately 2000 exercise books and they hope to beat last year’s record of 5000.
“A Rotarian had been to Timor-Leste (East Timor) and went to a school and he found that every three kids in the school had to share one book and they were only allowed to use pencil. And when they were finished they rubbed out their work so they could use it again,” Mr Lean said.
“As a consequence we try to collect as many as we can and we ship them over to a school and it helps them out. We also send pens, pencils and rubbers, but we mainly focus on exercise books.”
To donate exercise books drop them into Escape Travel at the Bendigo Marketplace or Reilly’s Home Appliances on Mitchell Street.
The charity collection will continue until the start of February.
