Campaspe Highway Patrol said the Kyabram boy had been given the bike for Christmas and was riding it at the Lancaster Recreation Reserve about 10.30am when he struck a fence along the boundary.
Police said he was knocked backwards off the bike.
Members at the scene noted the boy had been wearing a helmet.
Sergeant Paul Nicoll said the crash occurred at a speed between 20 and 30 kilometres an hour.
The boy’s father had been supervising the ride.
Paramedics assessed the child at the scene for upper body injuries and transported him to Goulburn Valley Health in a stable condition.
But Sergeant Nicoll said the boy was not admitted to hospital.
The child’s injuries were non-life threatening.
Police had no plans to take any further action regarding the incident.
