The four-year-old mare made it back-to-back wins with her gutsy benchmark 58 victory over 1170m at Wangaratta on Tuesday.
The daughter of dual Group race winner Real Saga and Klairzero, Nothing But A Saga struck plenty of trouble during the race and was last at the 600m mark.
The mare found herself on the heels of the leaders halfway down the straight with nowhere to go, but Meech, who broke the record for the number of winners by a female jockey in Victoria in 2016-17, was able to rally the sprinter for one last burst.
Speaking to broadcaster Racing.com, Meech insisted Nothing But A Saga was “definitely capable” of winning city-class races.
“I’d love to see her get out over seven furlongs (1400m),” said Meech, who booted home 127 winners last season.
“She doesn’t really want to go at the start, (but) then I started absolutely flying.
“I was probably lucky she is as good as she is.
“She ran a couple of good sectionals – some real city-class times.
“I think George has really found the key to her. That was a sensational win.”
Nothing But A Saga now has three wins from 14 starts since being transferred to Osborne in mid-2016.
