Summer in the Parks program ensures no shortage of family fun

SUMMER in the Parks is making sure central Victorian families have plenty of fun things to do during the holiday season.

More than 30 activities are on the Summer in the Parks calendar during February including seven outdoor cinema sessions in towns around the region.

Redesdale Recreation Reserve has the first outdoor cinema session on January 4 when it screens Red Dog: True Blue.

Lockwood South Recreation Reserve will screen The Lego Batman Movie on January 5, Barrack Reserve in Heathcote is showing Sing on January 12 and Hitchcock’s Vertigo will screen on January 13 at Rosalind Park.

Elmore Events Centre will screen Beauty and the Beast on January 19, Malone Park in Marong will show Despicable Me 3 on January 20 and on January 25 the Raywood Recreation Reserve will feature Moana.

All films screen at 7pm except for the Bendigo even which screens at 8pm.

For families that like to be a bit more active during their holidays, Gecko Sports will host a mini Olympics at Rosalind Park near the Poppet Head on January 11 at 7pm.

The Monthly Community Bike Ride will take place on Sunday, January 14 at 10am. It starts at the Rosalind Park Piazza and goes for an hour.

Also getting active will be Z Fit Studios as they host Zumba sessions in the Civic Gardens.

Zumba session will be held on January 7 and January 14 at 10am as well as January 23 at 9.30am.

With upbeat dance music, each Zumba class is like a dance party.

Z Fit will also host an IncluZFit on January 18 from 3.30pm. IncluZFit is a fun and easy to follow dance fitness class for people with varied abilities.

It is designed to cater for adults with developmental, intellectual and physical delay with the purpose of increasing their fitness, well being and social lives all while having a great time.

Parents with young children will enjoy the Polka Dot Picnic at the Library Gardens on January 19.

It sees families bring a picnic and a towel and celebrate all things summer while enjoying some twilight book theatre. It is ideal for children aged between 3 and 8.

Heathcote Night Market will return on January 25 with more than 40 stallholders showcasing local wineries, craft beer, food and local produce.

Bush market stalls, live music, entertainment and children's activities are also set for the market which is held at Barrack Reserve from 5pm to 9.30pm on January 25. Contact the Heathcote Lions Club for more information.
