Detective Leading Senior Constable Shane Bourke said police were called to the English’s Bridge campgrond in Goornong at 10.30pm on New Year’s Eve, where a 29-year-old male was driving erratically and making threats to people.
“The man was drunk and belligerent to police. He was returned to Bendigo Police Station pending an interview for sobriety when he was charged,” Detective Leading Senior Constable Bourke said.
The man has been charged with 13 offences including reckless conduct endangering persons and refusing a breath test, along with multiple traffic offences.
“There were no injuries to anyone at the camp site but the man's conduct in relation to driving in close proximity to camp sites and other people at the reserve were disturbing to police,” Detective Leading Senior Constable Bourke said.
“It is concerning that people are still drink driving. The seriousness and close proximity to campers makes it lucky no one was injured.”
The man was bailed to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court on March 15.
