Late last week, the forecast suggested Bendigo would hit 40 degrees on Monday and 39 degrees on Tuesday, with a balmy overnight minimum of 24 degrees in between.
Since then, the forecast maximum has fallen by a few degrees, with a top of 36 now expected on Monday.
But the overnight minimum will remain warm, at 25 degrees.
Elsewhere, Echuca can expect to reach 38 degrees, Redesdale 36, Maryborough 35, Castlemaine 35, and Kyneton 35.
Heat speed restrictions will come into force on the V/Line Bendigo line from midday to 8pm, although the company says the impact on this line is expected to be minimal.
The fire danger rating on Monday is high in the Central and North Central forecast districts, and very high in the Northern Country and Mallee districts.
