Bendigo Highway Patrol Sergeant Mick McCrann said police were called after black Dodge car struck a vehicle stopped at the traffic lights at the intersection of Barnard and View streets just before 3pm.
He said the vehicle that was hit was likely to be written off.
There were no injuries associated with the crash.
Police traced a vehicle seen leaving the scene to a Golden Square address.
A 40-year-old woman was conveyed to the Bendigo Police Station for a breath test.
Sergeant McCrann said the woman’s licence was suspended on-the-spot.
She will be summonsed to the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court at a later date in relation to charges of drink driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Sergeant McCrann was thankful the crash was not worse.
“It could have been a much more serious collision,” he said.
