The Bendigo Stadium was announced on Friday as the first stop for the Globetrotters on their Australian tour in April next year.
The Globetrotters – world famous for their dazzling and entertaining basketball skills – will take to the court at the Bendigo Stadium on Friday, April 13 at 7pm in what is earmarked to be the opening event of the new $22 million showcourt currently under construction.
“It has been months of negotiating with the NBL to lure the world class entertainment to Bendigo,” O’Neill said on Saturday.
“We are pleased we have come to an agreement to showcase the Harlem Globetrotters in our own backyard.
“For Bendigo to be on the touring schedule with all the capital cities gives us confidence the Bendigo Stadium is ready to be recognised as a premium sporting and entertainment venue.

- Nathan O'Neill - Bendigo Stadium CEO
“It has been well documented that Larry Kestelman (NBL owner) wants to expand the game and we will continue to put our hand up to host top class basketball games.”
Tickets will go on sale next week, and judging by the response to the announcement on the Bendigo Advertiser Sport Facebook Page on Friday, the new 4000-seat arena will be jam-packed.
The Harlem Globetrotters were formed in 1926 and are the holders of 17 Guiness World Records.
As well as Bendigo, the Globetrotters will also visit Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Hobart, Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth on their Australian tour where they will take to the court for nine shows in nine days.
