Volunteers will be stationed at the Princes Park car park, off Park Road and Wills Street, from 10am – 1pm today to install the one-way, anti-theft screws.
There will also be a sausage sizzle.
Victoria Police, Rotary Maryborough, Repco, Bendigo Bank and the Central Goldfields Shire L2P program are involved in the Number Plate Safety Screw Day.
The event follows the success of a similar initiative last year.
Maryborough Acting Sergeant Gary Bourman said none of the 90 sets of number plates secured by number plate retention screws in 2016 had been reported stolen.
More than 10,000 number plates are stolen annually in Victoria.
Acting Sergeant Bourman said he had ordered ‘an armload’ of the special screws in anticipation of high demand.
He encouraged people to ‘come down and say g’day’.
“Support Rotary, buy a sausage,” Acting Sergeant Bourman said.
