In the return to the one-day format, the Tigers won by 60 runs at Spring Gully to keep intact an undefeated run against the Crows that dates back to the 2011-12 season.
An unbeaten 73 from Xavier Walsh was the backbone of the Tigers’ 4-218 after they won the toss and batted, with he and Patrick Hartney (28 n.o.) sharing in an unbroken stand of 110.
Joel Bish (2-10) was the only multiple wicket-taker for the Crows, whose batting line-up failed to fire as they were all out for 158.
Keiran Nihill (3-16) and Sam Conforti (3-47) took three wickets apiece for the Tigers, while Andrew Duguid (2-18) claimed the key scalp of Rhys Webb, who after coming off back-to-back centuries was caught by Conforti for six.
Lachlan Brook (39) and Bish (38) were the leading run-scorers for the Crows, who lost top spot with the defeat.
• Travis O’Connell’s superb batting form continued as he blasted another century in West Bendigo’s win over the sliding Maiden Gully.
Opener O’Connell smashed 141 in the Redbacks’ imposing 4-277 at Ken Wust Oval.
The veteran, who played the first two rounds of the season in the seconds, now has 553 runs at an average of 138.2, with Saturday his second century in his past three innings after he also made a West Bendigo record 208 n.o. against United in round six.
The innings included a 195-run partnership for the second wicket between O’Connell and Dion Prange (66).
Josh Sheehan dismissed both O’Connell and Prange as part of his 2-57.
Maiden Gully slid to its fourth loss in a row after it was all out for 239 – a score that would win more one-day matches than it loses.
Darcy Poulter batted well in making 83 after after coming in at 3-78.
Joel Purdy (3-65), Josh Connolly (2-46) and Shannon Murphy (2-29) were multiple wicket-takers for the Redbacks in their third win.
