Core samples of rock taken from below Bendigo, a large 3D map of a central Victorian fault line, and a scanned geological drawing are just some of the fascinating materials used by artist James Geurts in his upcoming exhibition Seismic Field. Drawing inspiration and information from the environment, Geurts processes his experiences and produces captivating artworks.

Working on site in View Street, the artist has engaged with local experts and the team at La Trobe in order to gather, analyse and interpret data. From Polaroid film that has been exposed at selected sites to the way in which technology helps us see reality, Geurts uses a series of steps to translate and then create new worlds.
Geurts is the winner of the Georges Mora Fellowship and his residency is provided by La Trobe University.
Seismic Field opens to the public next week and continues until January 20, 2018, at La Trobe Art Institute, 121 View Street, Bendigo.
