For Holy Rosary Primary School Grade Five student Kiara, 11, it will be her first time diving at the Games, while Abby, 16 and in Year 10 at Girton Grammar, has previously competed.
Both are members of the Bendigo Divers and will contest the 5m platform, 1m and 3m springboard and synchro events.
They both earned selection in the Victorian team following the School Sport Victoria diving trials in May.
Abby – who was crowned the Bendigo Sportsman’s Association Junior Sports Star of the Year last year – has been diving for the past nine years, while Kiara took it up just over three years ago.
Both are coached by Heather Tyter.
“We’re very proud of both of them to have made the Victorian team,” Tyter said this week.
“It’s going to be an exciting challenge for them, but we’re confident they will give it their best and both do very well.”
Diving is one of 11 sports being contested at the Pacific School Games, which will feature about 4000 school-aged students from 10 countries.
Others sports include basketball, golf, football, goalball, hockey, netball, softball, swimming, touch football and athletics.
