Cr O’Rourke said she was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to working with her Regional Cities Victoria colleagues to serve as an authentic voice for regional communities.
“I am excited and grateful for this wonderful opportunity to represent regional cities and their communities, and advocate on their behalf to state and federal governments,” she said.
“The success of Victoria relies on diverse, innovative and resilient regional cities. They provide a great lifestyle alternative to metropolitan Melbourne and as a group we have much to do to ensure they are adequately supported.”
Regional Cities Victoria comprises the mayors and chief executive officers of the 10 largest cities in regional Victoria, meeting bi-monthly and is chaired by a host council, which is voted to the position annually.
Cr O’Rourke was recently sworn in for her second mayoral term.
