Thomas Charles Adamson, 26, may have been more than three times the legal blood alcohol limit when he allegedly crashed into Ma Li Dai, 44, and her daughter Xinyu Yuan, 14, outside Lighthouse Christian College in Cranbourne East on August 9, the court heard.

Ms Dai and her daughter were pulling out of the school's car park after parent-teacher night about 7.20pm when their Toyota was struck by a Holden Commodore on a stretch of the South Gippsland Highway outside the college.

Police allege Mr Adamson was drinking before the crash and recorded a blood alcohol reading of between 0.12 and 0.165 afterwards, according to documents released by Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Mr Adamson is charged with two counts of culpable driving causing death and two of dangerous driving causing death, and one of driving while disqualified.

He spent time in hospital after the crash. Police said in the days after the crash he was seen driving erratically before the crash, and had abeen involved in a dispute with someone he knew at a pub.

Mr Adamson's lawyer on Friday asked the court that bail be varied so the accused man could still speak with his partner, who is listed as a prosecution witness.

He is prevented from having any contact with other witnesses, except for the lead police investigator.

He was also required to surrender his passport.

Mr Adamson, who also had a moon boot on his left leg, had his bail extended and will return to court on January 25 next year.

He was supported in court by two women, one of whom pushed his wheelchair as he left. In the month after the crash, the speed limit outside the school was reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.

The school and nearby residents had for years campaigned for the speed limit to be reduced.
