Students left their classrooms to greet members of the Allies Motorcycle Club, who visited to thank the organisers of a Christmas market for their $355 donation to the annual Bendigo Motorcycle Toy Run.
About 160 students organised the fundraiser, which was inspired by their German studies.
“They have to do a research project,” teacher Inga Steen said.
After learning about the Christmas markets in Germany, the students decided to stage something similar at school.
They chose to donate the proceeds to a local cause.
Sunday’s toy run starts at the Lansell Square shopping centre car park at 8am.
Hundreds of bikers are expected to partake in the journey.
The toy run is expected to reach Castlemaine IGA at 9am, Long Gully IGA at 10am, and Eaglehawk IGA at 10.45am.
A fun day and barbecue lunch will be staged in the civic gardens opposite Bendigo’s municipal offices in Lyttleton Terrace from noon.
The toy run aims to help those who are less fortunate.
