The fire danger period has come into effect across the entire region, with the exception of Macedon Ranges Shire.
This means anyone wishing to conduct a burn-off must acquire a permit.
There is a ban on any fire being lit in the open air during the fire danger period, and there are restrictions on other activities.
Bendigo CFA senior station officer Mark Nevill said people should be careful using machinery, such as mowers, around long grass.
He advised people wait until a cooler time, such as the early morning, when there is more moisture.
Mr Nevill said people using tractors and slashers must ensure they are fitted with the prescribed fire suppression equipment.
There have been a number of fires in central Victoria this week already, including one at Sutton Grange on Thursday, another at Tarrengower a short time later, a fire at Eppalock caused by an angle grinder, and another at Wedderburn.
