On Wednesday, Bendigo is set to experience its fourth day in a row above 28 degrees with a forecast maximum of 33 degrees.
Daytime temperatures are expected to hover in the high 20s to low 30s until at least next Tuesday.
Bureau of Meteorology senior climatologist Dr Blair Trewin said Victoria was experiencing “a very extended warm spell for this time of year”.
“Normally in spring, we do get the odd hot day, but systems usually move through fairly quickly in spring,” Dr Trewin said.
“But what we’re seeing now is a very prolonged warm spell of the type that’s perhaps more typical of late summer and early autumn.”
Earlier this month, Bendigo saw a seven-day stretch of maximum temperatures ranging from 28 degrees to 34 degrees.
The city’s long-term average maximum temperature in November is 24.6 degrees.
Dr Trewin said the weather was the result of a blocking high pressure system over the Tasman Sea and New Zealand.
“When that happens the weather pattern tends to get stuck in a single mode, and with the position of the current high pressure system, that’s put us in very persistent north easterlies,” he said.
