Manson and his cult “family” were responsible for the brutal murder of actress Sharon Tate and six others in 1969.
He was serving nine life sentences in Corcoran State Prison and had been denied parole 12 times.

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said federal and state medical privacy laws prevented her from commenting on the hospitalisation reports.
