Severe thunderstorms could hit parts of central Victoria on Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing possible hail and heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for an area covering the northern parts of central Victoria, including Bendigo, Echuca and Kerang.

In the warning, issued at 3.36pm, the BOM warns the adverse weather conditions will strike over the coming several hours.
The State Emergency Service advises people:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Stay away from creeks and stormwater drains
- Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water
- Be aware rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris in fire-affected areas
- Be alert that heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads in places recently affected by fire
- Stay indoors, if possible
- Avoid using the phone during the storm
- Avoid sheltering under trees
- Turn off computers and electrical appliances
